Journey to Mars - NASA Invites Public to Submit Names to Fly Aboard Next Mars Rover

NASA has invited public to send their names to Mars with NASA's next Mars rover which set to depart on July 2020. Before that let's talk a little about their Mars projects. According to a post on www.nasa.gov on 2014, NASA is developing the capabilities needed to Send humans to an asteroid by 2025 and Mars in the 2030s.

Why Mars?

When we talk about Mars it is a rich planet for scientific purposes. Because Mars’s and Earth’s formation and evolution are comparable. That will help us to learn our planet’s history and future. Also Mars had conditions that supports for life  in the past. So future explorations will also answer to the question Does life exist beyond Earth?

So far...

Robotic explorers have studied Mars for more than 40 years. So now NASA’s path for the human exploration of Mars begins in International Space Station. A fleet of robotic spacecraft and rovers already are on and around Mars. The Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover measured radiation on the way to Mars.

Mars 2020

Post on 21st May on www.nasa.gov says they are giving the public an opportunity to send their Names - stenciled on chips - to the Red Planet(Mars) with NASA's Mars 2020 rover. This project represents the initial leg of humanity’s to another planet. The rover is scheduled to launch as early as July 2020, with the spacecraft expected to touchdown on Mars in February 2021.

The rover weighing more than 1,000 kilograms. It will search for signs of past microbial life, characterize the planet's climate and geology, collect samples for future return to Earth, and lay the way for human exploration of the Red Planet.

Great opportunity!!!

NASA said that ‘’The opportunity to send your name to Mars comes with a Souvenir boarding pass and "frequent flyer" points. This is part of a Public engagement campaign to highlight missions involved with NASA's journey from the Moon to Mars. Miles (or kilometers) are awarded for each "flight," with corresponding digital mission patches available for download. More than 2 million names flew on NASA's InSight mission to Mars, giving Each "flyer" about 300 million frequent flyer miles (nearly 500 million frequent flyer kilometers).’’

Submit your name here...

From 21st May until Sept. 30th, you can add your name to the list and get a souvenir boarding pass to Mars here: https://go.nasa.gov/Mars2020Pass. After you submit your data they will give a eCard that with your details.

What will happen to your names?

As NASA said, The Microdevices Laboratory at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, will use an electron beam to stencil the submitted names onto a Silicon chip. Text lines will be smaller than 1000th the width of a human hair (75 nanometers). Because there are more than a million names and they can be written on a single dime-size chip. Chip/Chips will go With the rover under a glass cover.

Future of the project

Mars 2020 will launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. As another step, NASA is returning American astronauts to the Moon in 2024. Government, industry and international partners will join NASA to build and test the systems needed for human missions to Mars and beyond. Follow their progress at www.nasa.gov/exploration and www.nasa.gov/mars.

‘’Engineers and scientists around the country are working hard to develop the technologies astronauts will use to one day live and work on Mars, and safely return home from the next giant leap for humanity’’
